Athens Rugby Club played rugby the way it should be.
It was Athens RFC win for while. The newest rugby club in Greece had not tasted the taste of winning since its first game in November. As a new club with new player no expected to be in full throttle from its start. The hard work of Head Coach Babis Vavaroutsos and Director of Rugby Kevin Green came out when it mattered against the French Naval Shit the ‘Jeanne D’ Arc’ which had on board the best of the French Naval cadets.
Athens RFC after Fridays shamble against Loughton RFC from England played some tremendous rugby. Many people thought at two games in two days will wear the team, but they proved everyone wrong.
The boys started the match with a back to play into their best of abilities and for one an other against a very experienced French team. In the first half tremendous rugby was played by the ‘owls’, the defense line was unbreakable nothing could go through. Tackling which seem to be a problem against the Greenwich game was all a matter of the past.
Six tries where scored with forwards and backs co-operating the best way
The second half was a different picture as a whole, the clubs stamina was running low, it was the second game in two days for the team. The spirit of the first half was not there. The boys where playing very well the defense was holding very well but two penalties that where given in the five meter line was converted into tries by the French and also referee Nick Clark awarded the Jeanne D’ Arc with a penalty try.
On the bad side one of the French backs was injured by miss stepping on his uncle and to taken to the hospital.
Athens RFC got the best credits again for the hospitality they provided the Jeanne D’ Arc during and after the game.
